Jaden1 has connected.
Brian: So...do you remember where we were? Because I'm going to have to check notes.
Jaden1: He had talked with the priest again
Jaden1: And he then went to sleep
Jaden1: And today he plans to go to the mill
Brian: which the old bar told you about, right
Jaden1: And he remembered seeing on the map
Brian: I feel like it's a bad sign when the DM is having a hard time following the plot
Jaden1: Or it could just be you're adjusting from another group
Brian: Well, doing two sessions in a day may also be an issue.
Brian: By the way, there might be interest in the other party for having another session after this, and that would catch them up with you to do another session with you after that if you would like
Brian: But for now, Artyom goes to sleep in the Cooper's warehouse.
Jaden1: Artyom sleeps
Brian: you awake pretty early the next morning, with no idea what you will find today
Artyom Cooper: I have no idea what I will find today
Artyom Cooper: But it's best to start early
Brian: Artyom thought it was best to start early
Jaden1: Saying that to himself, he sets out towards the mill
Brian: The structure you come upon is not just a mill, but a few wooden cabins, and a large warehouse-like structure.
Brian: A few refugees and one knight are...milling about
Jaden1: Artyom's going to just walk up to them
Jaden1: Their general area
Jaden1: And to no one in particular
Artyom Cooper: Hi
Brian: A few look at you, seemingly assuming someone else was going to say something, then the knight speaks up.
Sir Gethlin: Greetings, I am sir Gethlin. Who art thou?
Artyom Cooper: All my friends call me Arty, I just arrived here recently
Sir Gethlin: Where from?
Artyom Cooper: The south
Artyom Cooper: There were a lot of undead moving around there
Artyom Cooper: Luckily they didn't notice me and seemed to be focused on something
Brian: Are you just straight making up a story at this point? Cause I don't remember that part
Jaden1: No, the undead armies would have been headed towards the fort
Jaden1: If he weren't from the fort, he might have been able to avoid them by moving around them then
Brian: well still a deception check
Jaden1: That's charm?
Brian: plus int
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20+1 => 18 + 1 = 19
Brian: int is probably used too much in this system
Jaden1: So is Spd probably
Sir Gethlin: Interesting. Did you catch what?
Artyom Cooper: No idea, I didn't want to get any closer to them than I had to
Sir Gethlin: Well you're here now.
Artyom Cooper: And now I'm talking to you
Artyom Cooper: So, what is this place?
Artyom Cooper: It's kind of apart from the rest of the town
Artyom Cooper: I mean, it looks like a mill, and given the need for room I can see why you'd have people out here
Artyom Cooper: But aren't you scared of any undead moving in these woods around you?
Artyom Cooper: Wouldn't it be safer in the town?
Sir Gethlin: How did you find this place?
Artyom Cooper: Saw it on a map
Artyom Cooper: While talkin' to the priest
Sir Gethlin: And you weren't afraid the dead already got here first?
Artyom Cooper: Mm, I figured I could run scared faster than the dead could run angry
Brian: he lets out a laugh.
Sir Gethlin: Brave man.
Sir Gethlin: We filled up the town, so we started to shift out here to get more space. And having the power of a mill can be handy for a lot of things when you're trying to keep a ton of folks alive.
Artyom Cooper: Ah yeah, like making bread and such
Artyom Cooper: That makes a lot of sense
Artyom Cooper: So are you a guard out here?
Artyom Cooper: You look pretty capable
Sir Gethlin: I'm Sir Gethlin, thank you very much.
Sir Gethlin: Kight of Damriel.
Artyom Cooper: How wonderful. Good to have you protecting us
Artyom Cooper: Well, them
Artyom Cooper: Since I'll be in town
Artyom Cooper: You know
Artyom Cooper: I heard a rumor that the dead could talk
Artyom Cooper: You think that's so?
Sir Gethlin: Of course not. The dead don't even have breath.
Artyom Cooper: I heard another rumor that there was an elf who'd come save us
Artyom Cooper: What about that one?
Sir Gethlin: I've heard tales, and the Order of Blood has been sure to spread the news.
Sir Gethlin: I like to belive, but a part of me doubts he exists. Either way, my duty is to protect those under me for as long as I can, savior or no.
Artyom Cooper: Good man.
Artyom Cooper: Mind if I take a look around?
Sir Gethlin: Not at all
Jaden1: Artyom's going to have a look around outside at first
Brian: The ground is pretty well trodden. This place has had traffic. The structures also are very new. Some of the sap still hasn't fully dried out of the wood, and it definitely hasn't had any cycles of expansion over the winter...
Jaden1: What do the people outside look like?
Brian: Mostly human, mostly peasants, mostly in shock.
Jaden1: Any way to tell if they are Nerullians or not? Maybe a gesture of greeting? My character does actually have a Religious Knowledge skill if you'd like me to roll
Jaden1: Or just because his mother is one
Brian: sure, roll a wis check on this one, and an extra +1 for your mom
Jaden1: So +2 skill, +1 mom +3 wis
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 6 => 9 + 6 = 15
Brian: they have a way of walking that kind of suggests it, and they seem pretty somber. So maybe?
Brian: Nobody's saying anything Nerul like though
Jaden1: Hm
Jaden1: He's going to walk up to this one here
Jaden1: And say
Artyom Cooper: Hear about what happened in Glenswood?
Artyom Cooper: It's a shame, isn't it?
refugee 19: I knew folks from Glenswood.
refugee 19: I'm suprised word is only getting around now...
Artyom Cooper: What do you think will happen?
refugee 19: With everything? I just don't know.
refugee 19: If the dead don't kill us, I'm sure the living will.
Artyom Cooper: But you're innocent
Artyom Cooper: My mothers a Nerullian
Artyom Cooper: I know full well she's not summoning the dead
Artyom Cooper: So why do they think it's you?
refugee 19: We're different. Maybe it's not as bad when you're an elf.
Artyom Cooper: You think those folks over at Gorewood might really be doing it?
Artyom Cooper: I've heard they sent people over here to summon the dead, disguised as Nerullians
refugee 19: Maybe. I don't know.
Artyom Cooper: Yeah, with everything that's happening
Artyom Cooper: Anyway
Artyom Cooper: Stay safe
Jaden1: And with that
Jaden1: I think he'll go inside this building
Jaden1: Or
Jaden1: Try to
Jaden1: Hell yes I guessed right
Brian: The door is unlocked. The place is pretty full of people. Including the girls from before
Artyom Cooper: Oh
Artyom Cooper: Hey everyone
Jaden1: He looks a bit surprised at how packed everyone is
Artyom Cooper: Looks like a pretty tight fit in here, huh?
Hyntsa: Why are you here?
Artyom Cooper: Lookin' around
Hyntsa: You don't worship our father.
Brian: The refugees look around at each other
Artyom Cooper: No, I don't
Artyom Cooper: But my mother does, and if I can help you guys get to safety, I need to know how many there are
Hyntsa: Alright, count us then.
Artyom Cooper: Already have
Jaden1: There are 10 in this room, as shown by the tokens, correct?
Jaden1: No babies being held or anything?
Brian: there are 1d6 babies
Jaden1: I trust my character can count
Brian: make a baby check
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d6 => 4
Jaden1: Oh
Jaden1: 14
Artyom Cooper: Quite a few young ones too then...
Artyom Cooper: That could make things difficult
refugee: They don't take that much food.
Artyom Cooper: But travelling with them can be a hassle
refugee: Ohh come on now, we've got bigger issues than that...
Artyom Cooper: Like what?
Artyom Cooper: As I see it, you're biggest issue is how to get all of you somewhere safe
refugee: And you're worried about a loud baby
Artyom Cooper: Not a loud one, one that makes those carrying it walk slower, which gives more time for the dead to catch up if they find us while moving
Artyom Cooper: After all, running with a baby isn't very easy
refugee: We aren't leaving the children, whatever plan you think you have.
Artyom Cooper: And I wouldn't ask you too
Artyom Cooper: I just would have to find a way to delay the dead for more time
Hyntsa: So what is your plan?
Artyom Cooper: Haven't figured it out yet
Artyom Cooper: That's why I'm looking around
Artyom Cooper: So far, since we have no horses..
Artyom Cooper: Looks like we're walking
Hyntsa: where?
Artyom Cooper: Still have to figure that out too
Artyom Cooper: There's a few possibilities
Brian: No one in the room seems to have somthing else to say
Artyom Cooper: Look, I'll talk to Father Maryn more, as soon as we come up with anything solid, you'll know
Artyom Cooper: Take care
Jaden1: And with that, he leaves to the next building
Jaden1: Um
Jaden1: This one.
Brian: this one is JAM PACKED
Jaden1: 5 people? or more in the cracks?
Brian: 5 people, but it's a tiny place
Jaden1: Got it
Jaden1: So total of 15 + 4 babies
Jaden1: And then the knight and the three outside
Jaden1: So 19 + 4
Jaden1: Next room
Jaden1: Oh yeah, unless someone stops him
Jaden1: He just pokes his head in and counts
Brian: You get some funny looks, but this is everyone in token form
* Brian rolls: 2d6 => 8
Brian: plus 8 more babes
Brian: a bit shy of 50 in all
Jaden1: And I'm assuming that's babies and small children
Jaden1: So like toddlers and such
Jaden1: So
Jaden1: 35 + 12
Jaden1: So yeah 47
Jaden1: With that
Jaden1: He's going back to see Father Maryn
Brian: Maryn was talking to someone else when you showed up, but she's soon off giving you a turn
Father Maryn: What's up?
Artyom Cooper: Do you happen to know how many people you have in town?
Father Maryn: One hundred forty
Artyom Cooper: Is that including the 47 at the mill?
Father Maryn: The mill?
Artyom Cooper: Yeah, the mill
Artyom Cooper: Out by the river
Artyom Cooper: Just walked there
Artyom Cooper: Lots of people
Artyom Cooper: And a knight
Artyom Cooper: And those lovely sisters I talked to the other day
Father Maryn: I did what I felt was right.
Artyom Cooper: Nah it's good it's good
Artyom Cooper: I don't think they did it
Artyom Cooper: I would like to walk around there one more time but...
Artyom Cooper: That can be in a bit
Artyom Cooper: Just wanted to know about how many people we'd be moving with
Father Maryn: One hundred eighty seven.
Artyom Cooper: Also, that bard you mentioned to me, he knows about the people at the mill, and he's got a pretty loose tongue
Artyom Cooper: Pretty sure if you want to keep a secret you shouldn't point me towards people who'll give that secret away
Artyom Cooper: Though it is better that I found out
Jaden1: He's saying this in a sort of "I'm not mad, I'm disappointed you lied to me" tone
Brian: Maryn, for the first time since you met him and maybe the first time in his life, has nothing to say.
Artyom Cooper: Anyway, I suggest we move them
Artyom Cooper: The sooner the better
Brian: them or then?
Jaden1: Them
Jaden1: As in the people
Jaden1: He'd gesture towards the town
Jaden1: To clear things up for Maryn
Father Maryn: To your fort?
Artyom Cooper: Yeah, they'll be safe there
Artyom Cooper: As you said, no one would dare go against my orders if I forbade them from hurting the Nerullians
Artyom Cooper: And it's safer there
Artyom Cooper: You have what?
Artyom Cooper: One knight and a priest here? That's all I've seen
Father Maryn: There's a militia and a few hunters.
Father Maryn: The best fighters didn't run from whatever towns these people came from.
Jaden1: Artyom shakes his head sadly
Artyom Cooper: From what I've seen...
Artyom Cooper: Militia can work
Artyom Cooper: But only against a greatly weakened enemy
Jaden1: How many losses were there in our militia at the fort?
Brian: 0
Brian: Eldati was able to heal at a rate above the army's total DPS
Jaden1: Nice
Jaden1: But to be fair they were kinda lightninged and watered up before hand
Brian: yeah that battle was nothing near balanced
Jaden1: I kinda want to say we have a super-priest there
Jaden1: Because that's what Eldati is
Jaden1: But, I know my character wouldn't
Jaden1: Anyway
Artyom Cooper: There weren't any losses when the armies attacked us, but I summoned a storm beforehand to belabor them and then used lightning to thin them out
Father Maryn: Do you want to be present at the council when I tell them? I really have no power to order anyone to do anything.
Artyom Cooper: I will not tell them what to do
Artyom Cooper: I will not order them to do anything
Artyom Cooper: But whatever you decide
Artyom Cooper: Because this is your town
Artyom Cooper: I will back you
Artyom Cooper: And you can use me as a symbol to exert power
Father Maryn: I think it will be easier if I just do it on my own. If I gave you the last horse I convinced people not to eat, do you think you could get to your fort and come back with a promise that the Nerulians won't be harmed? They might ask for that.
Artyom Cooper: I don't see any reason I couldn't
Artyom Cooper: Though it would be faster and safer if we were to all set out at once
Father Maryn: Safety of the body isn't the only thing that counts.
Artyom Cooper: Though, it may also be better to arrange seperate accommodations for the Nerullians
Artyom Cooper: In a part of the fort, set aside for them
Father Maryn: Hey, I'm sure they'd like that.
Jaden1: Is that sarcasm?
Brian: no
Artyom Cooper: And I think those that are suspicious of them would feel better about it as well
Artyom Cooper: Though my safety is not my concern
Artyom Cooper: I'd hate to come back to a town overrun with the dead
Artyom Cooper: A promise of safety only works if you're alive to be safe when you get there
Father Maryn: I'll leave the decision up to you, but this town has been alright for a while.
Artyom Cooper: But there will come a time when they come here
Artyom Cooper: And when they do... I'd rather there not be people here
Father Maryn: Very well then, I'll ask all of them to leave at once.
Artyom Cooper: When can we next meet with the council?
Artyom Cooper: I'd like to attend, just to give a statement
Artyom Cooper: If nothing else
Father Maryn: Sure thing
Brian: can we skip to the council?
Jaden1: Sure thing
Jaden1: Actually
Jaden1: How long would it be until then?
Brian: a few days
Jaden1: During those days
Jaden1: He'd at some point go to the mill again
Jaden1: But before arriving
Jaden1: Off in the woods just a bit
Jaden1: He'd cast up some
Jaden1: Mana?
Jaden1: The one that lets you see magic
Brian: yup, mana
Jaden1: Let's say 5 points
Jaden1: And then he'd just walk around the mill looking for anything magical
Jaden1: He'd do the same with the rest of the town, especially the priest's room
Brian: The priest has nothing, but...
Brian: when wandering around the mill, you sense a magical object OUTSIDE the area, in the forest.
Jaden1: Whaaaat
Jaden1: Okay yeah
Jaden1: I'd head towards it
Jaden1: Also
Jaden1: How many hours would you say searching the mill/town took total?
Jaden1: Maybe 4 for town 1 for mill (which I'd still be on right now)
Jaden1: ?
Brian: I'm going to say 1.5 for the town, 15 mintues for the mill
Jaden1: Ah
Jaden1: Okay
Brian: Apparently I'm a nicer DM than you
Jaden1: So, three rolls I'd say, since let's say the town and mill are different days
Jaden1: Two for town, one for the mill
Jaden1: Each for 5
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 7 + 12 = 19
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 5 + 12 = 17
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 13 + 12 = 25
Jaden1: Got em
Brian: not suprised
Brian: so, you saunter over to the item?
Jaden1: Hm
Jaden1: I'm gonna cast 10 abs
Jaden1: Then saunter over
Brian: roll wis+disc
Jaden1: Before or after casting abs?
Jaden1: Or because?
Brian: after
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 11 + 12 = 23
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 5 => 19 + 5 = 24
Jaden1: First is abs
Jaden1: Second is wis + disc
Brian: damn, son
Brian: you hear someone's throat being slit, then two figures dash out from behind the tree in front of you.
Brian: Everybody gets 5 base init
Brian: The figures look like orcs
Jaden1: Is shouting a free action?
Brian: 5 words or less
Brian: says my arbitrary rule of right now
Artyom Cooper: Knight! Quick! I need aid!
Jaden1: I was going to say "Knight! Come quickly! I need aid!"
Jaden1: But it was one word too much
Brian: and it's one less to be the second line of a hi cue, or however you spell that
Jaden1: haiku
Jaden1: It's Japanese
Jaden1: It's strange
Brian: you're mom's Japanese.
Brian: I mean strange
Jaden1: What do you add to it actually?
Jaden1: Int or Wis?
Brian: yes
Brian: whichever is better
Jaden1: Okay
Jaden1: So I'm actually at 8
Jaden1: So I do go first
Jaden1: So I do yell that
Brian: poor fools
Jaden1: These are some darkrobed fellows, aye?
Brian: kinda, but more jedi robe like
Brian: not cloaks
Jaden1: And what am I seeing with my mana shell?
Jaden1: Something magic?
Brian: one magic item, in the tree
Brian: wait, no, on the guy on the left
Jaden1: Say
Jaden1: Are any of them wearing anything metal?
Brian: don't seem to be
Jaden1: Alright
Jaden1: Then...
Jaden1: 3 times for 10 lightning each?
Jaden1: Yeah
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 18 + 12 = 30
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 20 + 12 = 32
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 18 + 12 = 30
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 3 - 1 = 2
Jaden1: I super succeed
Jaden1: On all of them
Brian: k
Jaden1: And then he ends his turn
Brian: interesting
Brian: These guys just dash
* Brian rolls: 1d20+2+6 => 17 + 2 + 6 = 25
* Brian rolls: 15*5+40 => 15 * 5 + 40 = 115
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 18 + 3 = 21
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 1 + 3 = 4
* Brian rolls: 1d6-1 => 1 - 1 = 0
Brian: nice, so one guy hurts himself
Jaden1: Haha
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 2
Jaden1: That's why you don't dash you idiot
Jaden1: Right in the speed
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 3 + 3 = 6
Brian: well he doesn't pass out
Brian: Then they go ahead and dash again
* Brian rolls: 1d20+2+6 => 14 + 2 + 6 = 22
* Brian rolls: 12*5+40 => 12 * 5 + 40 = 100
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 16 + 3 = 19
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 6 + 3 = 9
Brian: second guy does it again
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 1
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 19 + 3 = 22
Brian: but stays up, and that's turn
Jaden1: Well
Jaden1: Artyom's gonna walk 45 feet towards the way they dashed off
Jaden1: Would you say he can see them from there?
Brian: yes. Barely, but yes
Jaden1: Alright
Jaden1: 2 x 9 arcana
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 17 + 12 = 29
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 9 + 12 = 21
Brian: alright, they did not happen to be lucky
Jaden1: And now
Jaden1: he's gonna dip for 18 arcana, 30 lightning, and 1 mana to be used
Jaden1: So roll to hit for both
Jaden1: Which is
Brian: damn, cause he already had the mana
Jaden1: Yeah
Jaden1: What's to hit for this?
Jaden1: Was it int?
Brian: dex
Jaden1: Alright
Jaden1: Dexterous lightning
Jaden1: Let's go
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 2 => 14 + 2 = 16
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 2 => 9 + 2 = 11
Brian: 1 hit
Jaden1: First is left, second's right
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 31 => 20 + 31 = 51
Jaden1: That's to wound
Jaden1: Hold on
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 2 - 1 = 1
Jaden1: Okay 52 to wound
Jaden1: On the guy to the left
* Brian rolls: 52=15 => Invalid expression: 52=15.
* Brian rolls: 52-15 => 52 - 15 = 37
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 3
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 4
* Brian rolls: 37-22 => 37 - 22 = 15
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 9 + 3 = 12
Brian: yeah he's so down
Brian: still living, for now
Jaden1: Really?
Jaden1: That didn't eat through all his toughness?
Jaden1: Impressive
Jaden1: I'm impressed
Brian: it went into DEX first, then bleed into toughness
Brian: he can't move, but the heart beats on
Jaden1: Well
Jaden1: He can move 5 ft per round
Brian: that said, he now has -5 to all toughness checks, and has a negligable chance of not bleeding out in a few rounds
Jaden1: That's end for Artyom though
Brian: so then it's these dingbats then sir Gethlin
Jaden1: Yep
Brian: more dashing!!!!
Jaden1: Poor Sir Gethlin
Jaden1: I think you mean a dash and a crawl 5 feet
* Brian rolls: 1d20+1+5 => 20 + 1 + 5 = 26
Brian: that's more dash than no dash
* Brian rolls: 1d6-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
* Brian rolls: 19*5 => 19 * 5 = 95
Jaden1: Actually
Jaden1: I'd say it's about equal dash and no dash
* Brian rolls: 1d20+5 => 8 + 5 = 13
Brian: and doesn't hurt himself this time
Jaden1: I'm impressed again
Brian: Then just moves twice like a normal person
Brian: and the other guy is also unconcious
* Brian rolls: 1d20-5 => 14 - 5 = 9
* Brian rolls: 1d20+5 => 5 + 5 = 10
Brian: and both bleed more
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 3
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 1
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 3
* Brian rolls: 1d4 => 1
Brian: and it ends up being str for both
* Brian rolls: 1d20+3 => 14 + 3 = 17
Brian: ok, turn for them
Jaden1: Gethlin!
Brian: he does his best in full place
Jaden1: Yay!
Jaden1: Artyom's just going 3 move actions
Jaden1: Normal ones
Brian: whoops didn't have init for that
Brian: ok, there
Jaden1: He's there
Jaden1: And
Jaden1: Important note
Jaden1: He still has enough mana to see if that item is still on that guys body or not at this distance
Jaden1: Does he?
Jaden1: I assume he does
Jaden1: Because that guy didn't stop dashing to get it from what I saw
Brian: he didn't. It's still on the downed guy
Jaden1: Then Artyom's fine with the guy running off escaping
Jaden1: If that's all he does
Brian: he does
Jaden1: And he'd keep an eye on Mr. Crawly here until Gethlin arrives
Brian: Gethlin only goes about halfway when he shouts out to you
Jaden1: Unless he bleeds out first
Sir Gethlin: What's going on?
Brian: crawly has accumulated 4 rounds of bleeding now
Artyom Cooper: I heard a sound akin to a hog being butchered, then two dark robed figures ran away from this tree when I came to investigate
Artyom Cooper: I managed to down one, he's right here, but the other got away
Jaden1: What did you say they looked like earlier?
Brian: orcs
Jaden1: Would Artyom know that word and know what they looked like?
Brian: yes. Orcs used to be a common thing in Damrielli life, before king Glistar banished them
Artyom Cooper: They appear to be orcs
Sir Gethlin: Then I would bring the one you caught to Maryn at once. And be quiet about it.
Artyom Cooper: Help carry him?
Artyom Cooper: He looks pretty heavy...
Sir Gethlin: Someone needs to protect the mill
Sir Gethlin: Maybe I should carry him.
Artyom Cooper: Take him to Maryn, then return as quickly as possible
Artyom Cooper: I'll protect the mill until you get back
Jaden1: Leadership roll maybe?
Brian: he's already convinced, but leadership is a lonely ability score this campaign
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 8 + 1 = 9
Brian: very nice
Jaden1: He's probably confused as to why some guy who he doesnt know is giving him orders
Jaden1: And also says with such confidence that he'll protect the mill
Jaden1: But decides to go along with it anyway, since clearly he's not strong enough to carry that orc
Jaden1: Artyoms not strong enough that is
Brian: He goes and grabs the body, and hauls it over his shoulders.
Sir Gethlin: Orcs are heavy. I'm suprised he's not bleeding...
Artyom Cooper: Well, you'd probably best get him to Father Maryn now
Artyom Cooper: I want to go take a look at that sound and then go back to the mill
Artyom Cooper: Accompany me to where I heard it?
Sir Gethlin: Umm, sure
Jaden1: Artyom'd go try to find the tree whre the sound happened
Brian: it doesn't take long to see the pool of blood.
Brian: There is another orc, tied to the tree, with his throat slit
Artyom Cooper: Hm
Artyom Cooper: We better bring him too...
Sir Gethlin: Ok, I have a limit buddy
Jaden1: How long does it take to get to the town?
Brian: a couple hours with a body
Artyom Cooper: Take this tied up one first
Artyom Cooper: I'll stay a little bit away from the mill and keep watch over that body
Artyom Cooper: I'll still be close enough to protect it, if need be, but I think it's best if you spend the next few hours taking these to Father Maryn
Artyom Cooper: Then once you get back I'll got and discuss with him
Artyom Cooper: If he asks what happened tell him Arty will explain once he gets there
Brian: Without a word he complies. It's almost like he expects you to be in charge...
Jaden1: Artyom's going to move the initial body closer
Jaden1: And also find that magic item on him
Jaden1: He'd want to be about 30-50 feet away from the mill
Jaden1: Behind a tree
Jaden1: I'd imagine he can drag a body that far
Brian: it's a mace from the orc you downed. It's not like a Damriel weapon at all (Damriel doesn't make many maces), nor does it look like the swords you've seen. It seems to be made of normal steel, but somehow...different
Jaden1: He's going to put it back with the orc
Jaden1: Then walk to the mill
Jaden1: For just a few minutes
Brian: doing anything there
Jaden1: The first refugee he sees
Artyom Cooper: I'm filling in for Sir Gethlin for a bit, I'll be close.
Artyom Cooper: If you need me just call out
refugee 19: What happened?
Artyom Cooper: I'm not sure
Artyom Cooper: But we'll know soon
Artyom Cooper: I need to think about what happened
Jaden1: And with that, he's going to walk back to the orc
Brian: The refugees (who heard you shout btw) seem very confused
Jaden1: Artyom's very confused
Jaden1: I'm very confused
Jaden1: Why are there orcs here?
Jaden1: Why is there a magic mace?
Jaden1: Why did I not choose a mace proficiency?
Brian: clearly you need higher damage output
Brian: and I need more followable plotlines
Jaden1: Hold on
Jaden1: Were the orcs banished to Gorewood by any chance?
Brian: they were
Brian: I thought you were still familar with that. That's SUPER important to like everything
Jaden1: I know very little about the world as it is
Jaden1: Almost everything I know I was told by you in a session
Brian: I probably added it into one of the first couple sessions, but I can't blame you for forgetting
Brian: also, Damriel and Gorwood are the only known nations in the world right now
Jaden1: Ah
Jaden1: Yes
Jaden1: Damriel
Jaden1: That's what it's called
Jaden1: All the times when I said "this kingdom" or "our nation" in that speech
Jaden1: I could have said Damriel
Brian: But the pronoun game is fun!
Jaden1: Well
Jaden1: If nothing happens with this orc
Jaden1: He's just gonna sit here with it
Jaden1: Until either a) Gethlin comes back for it b) a refugee cries out or c) another orc or undead attacks him
Brian: Gethlin returns, with two hunters, to take up guard.
Jaden1: Smart man
Jaden1: In that case when Gethlin or the hunters prepare to carry the body back, I'll go with him
Jaden1: No need to help protect if hunters or Gethlin will be there
Brian: Cool. Maryn has set up a chair for you and everything when you arrive
Jaden1: Nice
Jaden1: He never had a chair for me before
Artyom Cooper: So
Artyom Cooper: Orcs
Artyom Cooper: What do you think?
Father Maryn: I think I'm going to get as much information as I can first. What were they doing?
Father Maryn: Gethlin said he saw nothing.
Artyom Cooper: I heard a squelch, I suppose it was that orcs throat being slit
Artyom Cooper: Then two dark robed ones ran away from me as soon as I saw them
Artyom Cooper: I saw a magical item on one
Artyom Cooper: It's the mace on the second one
Artyom Cooper: But the third got away
Artyom Cooper: I think he hurt himself running though, he had a slight limp
Artyom Cooper: I couldn't catch him
Father Maryn: Shame. The orc you got was dead when he got here.
Father Maryn: You do have some, impressive powers.
Father Maryn: But all the orcs did was kill one of their own?
Artyom Cooper: That's all I could tell
Artyom Cooper: Had him tied up as well
Artyom Cooper: I've heard that some special swords may be able to raise the dead when you kill someone with them
Artyom Cooper: Perhaps they were hoping to raise him again and have him attack them
Artyom Cooper: If so...
Father Maryn: You heard, or you already know this?
Artyom Cooper: Where is that body?
Artyom Cooper: I can't be absolutely sure
Artyom Cooper: But...
Artyom Cooper: He's going to take out the wrapped up shortsword from where it was on his back
Artyom Cooper: And say
Artyom Cooper: They are swords like these
Jaden1: He'll unwrap it and show Maryn
Artyom Cooper: Though, when I see magic, this sword gives an aura
Artyom Cooper: Unless it was that mace...
Artyom Cooper: I doubt one of their weapons could do that
Artyom Cooper: And maces don't exactly slit throats
Father Maryn: They do not. The orc you killed had a knife though.
Father Maryn: His body is in that coffin *points* which is being burnt as soon as possible. I think full well you know why.
Artyom Cooper: Yes
Artyom Cooper: Can you show me the knife?
Artyom Cooper: Do you have it?
Jaden1: Also man
Brian: he goes to a table beside the coffin, and retrieves the knigh
Jaden1: I should have chosen Speak with Dead as a third level spell to learn
Jaden1: I mean...
Jaden1: Artyom's casting 1 mana
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 15 + 12 = 27
Jaden1: Does the knife look magical?
Brian: you don't sense any magic in the knife, which is made of flint and a crude handle
Artyom Cooper: I don't see anything in it
Artyom Cooper: If it were magic it is either already used up, or there was a magic application from the orcs
Father Maryn: Do the swords need to be re-applied?
Artyom Cooper: I'm not sure
Artyom Cooper: I don't think so
Artyom Cooper: But sadly since testing it requires killing things
Artyom Cooper: We don't fully know the sword's powers yet
Father Maryn: Why would they even need the swords. I know for a fact nobody was skewering our graveyards, and they rose anyway.
Artyom Cooper: I can't say
Artyom Cooper: All I know is that the swords are indeed magical, from Gorewood, and when used to kill pigs, the pigs rose from the dead
Father Maryn: Interesting.
Father Maryn: What also may interest you is that we are seeing more undead in this area than from the few foolish enough to come down here from beyond.
Father Maryn: Maybe the swords help the process or something. Either way, a connection with Gorwood is pretty hard to deny at this point.
Artyom Cooper: With the orcs and swords, no doubt
Artyom Cooper: But with this happening
Artyom Cooper: I'd like to have you guys safe first
Father Maryn: I agree. The council is tomorrow night, but maybe we don't have time.
Father Maryn: Who knows how many orcs hide in the shadows.
Artyom Cooper: At least one
Artyom Cooper: Call an emergency council as soon as possible
Artyom Cooper: This is important enough to warrant it, I'd say
Father Maryn: No, we don't have time to deal with that bullshit.
Brian: he goes to the door
Father Maryn: I've been holding this town together for too long. I'm knocking on doors and gathering everyone.
Jaden1: Artyom's put up the sword by now and placed it back on his back, covered up
Father Maryn: It's time to move.
Artyom Cooper: So be it
Brian: He does exactly what he said, and soon all of Ensiph is gathered.
Brian: And unless you stop it for some reason, you proceed straight to Ft. Dirtyom (or maybe Horizon castle, or whatever other thing you wanted to call it)
Jaden1: It's still Ft. Dirtyom for now
Jaden1: Because pretty sure Horizon was shot down
Brian: Eldati didn't like it, but that doesn't mean you've got to give up on the idea
Jaden1: No, he's looking for another pun name now
Jaden1: Actually he's considering Castledati recently
Jaden1: Artyom would want to be at the front of the group
Brian: well if you generate, say, 30 mana and 60 lightning, you can auto-win all combats with random undead that show up
Jaden1: LIke, right now?
Jaden1: Roll for it?
Brian: yeah
Jaden1: 9 x 10 for each time
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 11 + 12 = 23
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 3 + 12 = 15
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 7 + 12 = 19
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 11 + 12 = 23
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 18 + 12 = 30
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 5 + 12 = 17
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 9 + 12 = 21
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 18 + 12 = 30
* Jaden1 rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 7 + 12 = 19
Jaden1: No 1s
Brian: cool, so you arrive with the refugees, to a fort that is notably larger and more composed of stone than it used to be, and Eldati walking out to meet you.
Jaden1: I'd want Father Maryn to be near the front as well actually
Artyom Cooper: Hi Eldati!
Eldati: I sent you to check out a village, Arty.
Eldati: You brought the village back.
Artyom Cooper: Yes....
Artyom Cooper: Well
Artyom Cooper: There's the dead
Artyom Cooper: It's not safe out there
Father Maryn: You must be the priest Artyom spoke of.
Artyom Cooper: Besides
Artyom Cooper: I'm almost sure the Nerullians aren't the cause at this point
Artyom Cooper: We found orcs
Artyom Cooper: Or at least most of the Nerullians aren't the cause
Artyom Cooper: But more importantly
Artyom Cooper: We found orc
Jaden1: s
Eldati: Well, no point discussing this outside. Come on in.
Eldati: We'll...find something for all these guys.
Artyom Cooper: I figured we should have enough food
Eldati: *whispers to you* Should he be here?
Artyom Cooper: Father Maryn?
Artyom Cooper: I trust him
Artyom Cooper: Right Father Maryn?
Father Maryn: Should I bail? I can bail.
Artyom Cooper: I mean, he's the leader of that village
Artyom Cooper: So he knows things
Artyom Cooper: No you shouldn't bail
Jaden1: He looks at Maryn and shakes his head
Brian: Maryn nods, and you assemble at the closest thing this "castle" has to a "throne room"
Eldati: Alright, tell me the whole story
Artyom Cooper: Well, I got there, looked around at the Nerullians like you said
Artyom Cooper: I don't think they did it
Artyom Cooper: Pretty sure it's not the Nerullians
Artyom Cooper: At least not most of them
Artyom Cooper: Maybe some are working with Gorewood and the orcs
Artyom Cooper: But I'm pretty sure it's mostly Gorewood
Artyom Cooper: They've got orcs here
Artyom Cooper: And also the swords
Artyom Cooper: They were where the swords are from too
Eldati: How do you know that?
Artyom Cooper: Well, the swords are from Gorewood because that merchant told us
Artyom Cooper: Pretty sure he wasn't lying
Artyom Cooper: And well
Artyom Cooper: Orcs only come from Gorewood, right?
Artyom Cooper: They were banished after all
Father Maryn: Well, come could be very early Goblins of the cycle, but we treat everyone for that in the woodlands. Even elves.
Artyom Cooper: As Maryn said
Artyom Cooper: They're treated
Artyom Cooper: Unless somehow they avoided being treated
Jaden1: He shrugs
Eldati: did they have equipment that looks like Gorwood work?
Eldati: Newly turned orcs don't have anything on them from Gorwood
Jaden1: Would he have that mace?
Jaden1: I'm sure they'd keep it around
Brian: yeah, of course
Brian: the whole village packed up
Jaden1: He'd retrieve the mace from wherever it got to
Jaden1: He probably would have it on his person
Jaden1: But well, fighting all those skeles
Jaden1: Maybe he made Maryn carry it
Jaden1: Or Gethlin
Father Maryn: One had this mace. Not Damrielli, but doesn't seem like what I would think Gorwood does.
Brian: Eldati takes the mace and frowns
Eldati: It's not. This matches a rare few items we've seen across the kingdom from time to time in tombs and ruins. They probably predate history as we know it.
Eldati: We have a couple in the capital under lock and key, and I don't see how Gorwood would have gotten any.
Jaden1: So you're telling me I had a rare item, not uncommon?
Jaden1: Great job not being able to mace
Jaden1: Anyway
Artyom Cooper: So, then why are orcs sneaking around our tombs?
Artyom Cooper: I mean, one had a crude flint knife
Father Maryn: That seems more like Gorwood to me.
Father Maryn: That merchant says they don't have any iron mines there
Artyom Cooper: And so maybe if an orc from Gorwood were rooting around in a tomb
Artyom Cooper: They'd stumble across that mace and keep it?
Father Maryn: I would. It's a cool mace.
Father Maryn: But then why did the other orcs kill him? Seems strage to go to a distant land with your buddies just to murder them.
Jaden1: Artyom looks at him
Artyom Cooper: Can you even use a mace?
Father Maryn: ...probably.
Father Maryn: I assume you hit them with the big end.
Artyom Cooper: Huh, that was my guess too
Artyom Cooper: Anyway
Artyom Cooper: Maybe the other orc had the mace
Artyom Cooper: And one of the other orcs wanted the mace
Artyom Cooper: So they killed him and took it since he wouldn't let it go?
Artyom Cooper: I don't know much about orcs
Father Maryn: Does anyone?
Artyom Cooper: But I do know if I were an orc, and i had an orc buddy with a cool mace, I'd kill my orc buddy for the cool mace
Father Maryn: Maybe it was just an adventuring party that was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Eldati: In the middle of the dead rising? Seems like a bad time to be grave-robbing
Artyom Cooper: They're from Gorewood
Artyom Cooper: That's where we expect the origin of the rising dead to be
Artyom Cooper: Maybe they were looting tombs and raising dead
Artyom Cooper: Two birds with one stone
Artyom Cooper: Plus they had these strange black robes
Artyom Cooper: Probably good for sneaking around in
Eldati: Now you're sounding like Eryson.
Artyom Cooper: Hey, if I had a black robe, I'd go sneaking around at night
Artyom Cooper: But look at this
Artyom Cooper: Not black
Artyom Cooper: Not really a robe
Artyom Cooper: Just some clothes
Artyom Cooper: I'm not gonna be sneaking anytime soon
Father Maryn: One's still out there. Good luck ever hunting it down though.
Artyom Cooper: At least one
Father Maryn: Any other time, I would ask how we missed this, but now the hunters don't dare stray out.
Eldati: So the question is, what now?
Father Maryn: I would start on the defensive. Protect our people first before we try and preempt an enimy we can't see.
Artyom Cooper: So the plan from before
Artyom Cooper: Essentially
Father Maryn: We've stayed alive so far. Your powers seem pretty unstoppable.
Artyom Cooper: Though, everytime I reach too far, push a bit too hard
Artyom Cooper: If I fail, I become weaker
Artyom Cooper: I feel my mental strength waning at that point
Artyom Cooper: And as of yet, I've been unable to regain that
Eldati: Why did you never bring that up before?
Artyom Cooper: Didn't seem relevant
Artyom Cooper: I achieved results
Artyom Cooper: I got more used to my powers
Artyom Cooper: I can do more than I could do initially
Artyom Cooper: And it's rare that I do push too hard
Artyom Cooper: But it's still there
Artyom Cooper: I know about what my limits are at this point and take care not to cross them
Father Maryn: Good. You're kind of important
Eldati: Then how's this for a plan: build up the castle first, and get the woodlanders to live near our walls. We can't use you to defend a thousand fronts at once, but it's clear that with you one a wall the dead don't really have an option.
Eldati: From there, whoever is up to this will need to push their luck to mess with us, not the other way around.
Artyom Cooper: Besides, with four walls we only have four fronts
Artyom Cooper: I can take one or two by mostly myself
Father Maryn: You're going to have a hard time convincing the south to adopt a castle lifestyle in the long-term. They like their way of life.
Artyom Cooper: Well, until we figure things out
Artyom Cooper: It's either castle, or the dead
Artyom Cooper: Now
Artyom Cooper: I'm not sure which roommate you guys would rather have
Artyom Cooper: But I know I'd prefer the castle
Eldati: It's a good sell, what can I say.
Father Maryn: The best plan I've got. We can probably keep sentding out teams of knights to escort groups in, as I'm pretty sure you guys have already been doing.
Eldati: I'll see to it. Anything else?
Artyom Cooper: We need more food, water and space
Artyom Cooper: Any able bodied person should be put to work with one of those three things
Eldati: We have a pretty solid well, so water is pretty good. Food will be tough for a while while we don't have any crops down here.
Eldati: The next ring of walls are already being worked on.
Eldati: and most folks will live just outside the castle when not in battle
Artyom Cooper: Then our main focus should be getting some form of food, either hunting parties or trying to get some fast growing crops down, and finishing those walls
Artyom Cooper: Also setting up some form of alarm system
Artyom Cooper: So we would know when the undead are coming
Artyom Cooper: Clearing out more of the forest for sightlines would be useful, but other than that, I'm not sure
Father Maryn: We've got enough kids with plenty of energy. You'd be suprised how fast they can run, even long before they would be any use in the field.
Eldati: Children? As the key to our defense?
Father Maryn: I promise you they don't want to die either. I'd rather have a kid who's always got time than a grown up half the time.
Artyom Cooper: They have more energy, and you'd be surprised what a kid can notice
Artyom Cooper: Plus, I've seen pageboys while in the capital
Artyom Cooper: They run pretty quickly when there's a letter they've got to deliver urgently
Artyom Cooper: Imagine how fast they'd run with a bunch of undead chasing them
Artyom Cooper: I've seen how those armies move
Artyom Cooper: It's not overly fast
Eldati: Alright alright, but only until we get horses here.
Eldati: Speaking of which, that's my suggestion for the food issue: get a supply chain to escort food from the capital rather than trying to grow a whole economy from scratch. We can probably borrow knights from the regular army for it.
Artyom Cooper: That's an awfully long supply train
Artyom Cooper: But I don't see why we can't try it
Father Maryn: I don't like the word "try" in war.
Brian: am*
Artyom Cooper: We don't know what's going to work until we actually move
Artyom Cooper: Sure, we can spend all day sitting here planning
Artyom Cooper: But until we put it to the test, we have no idea how it will hold up
Artyom Cooper: So yeah, everything is just a "try"
Artyom Cooper: We're "trying" to keep people alive in this castle, so we're going to "try" to get them food
Artyom Cooper: So far we have
Artyom Cooper: We have no idea if we will do so in the future
Father Maryn: But there's more to it than...you know what? I guess I don't know any more than you.
Brian: So if you want to keep planning you may, but I wasn't planning on actually making a strategy game out of making this castle.
Jaden1: I mean
Jaden1: That's something I like
Jaden1: But I can't do that just off the top of my head
Jaden1: Maybe next session or in between I can send you things
Brian: I mean, you want to? We can arrange that, but we would need a touch of time
Jaden1: Yeah
Brian: This would also be a pretty good stopping point because what happens in your near future varies a lot based on what the other party does.
Jaden1: I'm fine stopping here
Jaden1: Kind of getting hungry anyway
