THIRTEENTH GENERATION

5352. William DUNBAR was born about 1630 in Scotland. His will dated March 22, 1709 is in the St. Marys County, Maryland records.

On May 2, 1650, William Dunbar a Scotsmen, and Richard Bennett, an Englishman and thirty eight other British subjects landed in Virginia at the mouth of the Rappahannock, where Lawson's creek joins that great river. This area called Northumberland and those forty individuals were to settle on two thousand acres granted to Mr. Epaphraditus Lawson to re-pay him for their transportation to this new land. William Dunbar was the first of his family to come to Virginia. His wife, Ann would follow him eleven years later, after he repaid Mr. Lawson and earned new head rights to purchase some land. His wife, Ann arrived in Northumberland, (later Westermoreland County) Virginia on September 20, 1661 and apparently William had earned sufficient head rights to pay her indenture, because they were soon settled on a Westmoreland farm and later across the Potomac River in Saint Marys County, Maryland

Some of the Dunbars moved to Loudoun County, Virginia (Daniel Dunbar was from that area and married Polly Riddle) others moved to Madison County, Kentucky, Boone County, Mo. and to Oklahoma and Texas. During this time they would intermarry With the Weedens of Westmoreland and Faquier Counties, Virginia. They also intermarried with the Hedges of Maryland and Kentucky and the Fergusons who came from Scotland to North Carolina. Scotland Neck, North Carolina??? He was married to Ann (DUNBAR).
